Secure Software Development (CERT)

The Graduate Certificate in Secure Software Development provides professionals with an opportunity to advance their knowledge and skills in developing software applications that are secure. The certificate requires 15 graduate credit-hours of coursework. The certificate may be pursued concurrently with a related graduate degree program at UNC Charlotte.

Social Work (MSW)

The Master of Social Work offers an advanced generalist curriculum that embraces the profession’s commitment to social and economic equity, individual and community well-being, and scientific inquiry. Guided by the core values of social equity and relationship building, our curriculum prepares future social workers for careers in a variety of clinical and community practice settings. Graduates of the program will be able to synthesize and apply a broad range of knowledge and skills to refine and advance the quality of social work practice and the profession.

Sociology (MA)

The Master of Arts in Sociology provides students with theoretical and methodological skills necessary to undertake analysis of contemporary social issues and problems. The curriculum prepares students who wish to pursue doctoral education in sociology or related fields, teaching at the collegiate level, data-driven applied research and careers in community development and nonprofit sector.

Spanish (MA)

The Master of Arts in Spanish serves individuals who seek a greater understanding of Spanish language, literatures and cultures, and who seek career and professional advancement opportunities in education, translation, applied language (Business Spanish), and who contemplate pursuing a Ph.D. in fields such as Hispanic literature, linguistics, translation studies, intercultural communication, or international studies. The M.A. in Spanish provides a rich variety of graduate coursework in a major world language that is becoming increasingly important in the United States. The program builds on a comprehensive undergraduate curriculum and consists of two concentrations: 1. Language, Literature and Culture (LLC), and 2. Translation and Interpreting Studies (TIS). Students in either concentration may take either: (1) 30 credit hours of elective courses or (2) 24 credit hours of elective courses plus a master's thesis (6 credit hours). FUNDING - The Department of Languages and Culture Studies usually has four Teaching Assistantships. Assistantships for the Fall semester are usually assigned shortly after the end of March. For the Spring semester, assistantships are assigned by the end of September. The assistantships give students $8000 (eight thousand) dollars per semester in exchange for 20 hours a week of work. Assistantships include a tuition waiver. If you receive an assistantship, you can also be nominated for the Graduate School Tuition Support Grant, which will provide you with additional funds for the academic year. - Whether or not you receive an assistantship, the Graduate Director can also nominate you for the Graduate School Tuition Support Grant if you're admitted by the end of March or earlier. - Please note that to maximize access to the funding opportunities described above, new students have to be admitted for Fall by the end of March or earlier.

Special Education (Ph.D.)

The Ph.D. in Special Education prepares special educators as innovators, teachers, leaders and researchers whose work contributes to enhancing the quality of life of exceptional learners and their families. This program provides the solid research foundation needed for the rapidly changing field of special education. Alumni of the program are currently employed as special education faculty, research scientists and special education administrators.

Special Education and Child Development (MED)

The Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Special Education and Child Development is a professional graduate degree that serves experienced educational professionals who have obtained an undergraduate degree from a regionally accredited college or university and who wish to become collaborative instructional leaders who are knowledgeable, effective, reflective and responsive to equity and diversity. Upon completion of the 33-credit hour program, graduates who hold an A-level North Carolina Professional Educator’s License may qualify for an M-level North Carolina Professional Educator’s License. There are four concentrations for the M.Ed. in Special Education and Child Development: 1. Academically or Intellectually Gifted (AIG) - Online 2. Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) - Online 3. Child and Family Studies (CHFS) - Main UNC Charlotte Campus 4. Special Education (SPED) - Online

Teaching English as a Second Language (MAT)

The Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) master’s degree program offers several different options to prepare teacher candidates at all stages for working in the rewarding career of English as a Second Language (ESL) teaching environments. The MAT program specifically caters to candidates who do not have an educational degree but would like to seek initial ESL licensure in North Carolina. With a master’s degree in TESL, graduates work with English Learners (ELs) and can find employment opportunities in K-12 schools; Higher Education; English Language Institutes; or non-profit organizations serving immigrant communities. Become the teacher you have always wanted to be and earn a master’s degree in the process. Interested candidates must have a bachelors degree to apply, but can have an undergraduate academic major in a variety of areas that include English, Anthropology, Sociology, Linguistics, International Studies, Political Science, etc. Candidates do not need to have an undergraduate degree in education to apply. UNC Charlotte's Master of Arts in Teaching programs allow students to become a self-reflective master teacher, in addition to developing advanced competencies as a teacher-researcher and a teacher-leader. **Contact the Graduate Program Director to learn about the new changes to the MAT program in TESL (Fall 2019) which will provide students access to a newly redesigned online program at significantly reduced costs**

Urban Management and Policy (CERT)

As part of the Master of Public Administration program, the graduate certificate in Urban Management and Policy provides education and training for the public and nonprofit sectors, conducts scholarly and applied research to advance the field of public administration, and serves the community. Specialized training can be obtained in this certificate without having to pursue the MPA master's degree.
