Ray – Seattle, Washington
Ray moved from China to Seattle when he was 18. While he was learning a new language, adapting to a new culture, and working toward his U.S. citizenship, he earned his bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of Washington. Ray lived and worked in Seattle for ten years until he moved to Charlotte in 2016 to pursue a master’s degree in Data Science and Business Analytics (DSBA), part of UNC Charlotte’s Data Science Initiative. He enlisted in the Army Reserves as soon as he was able because serving in the military represented the American Dream to him. Ray sees both the military as well as UNC Charlotte’s DSBA program as a place to become a pioneer, and he hopes to use his graduate education to work in Charlotte’s booming financial sector as a business analyst or data scientist.
