Chemistry (MS)

A Master of Science in Chemistry prepares students for careers in the chemical, pharmaceutical, textile, food, and power industries. A master’s degree in Chemistry may also serve as a useful step toward professions such as medicine, pharmacy, industrial hygiene, and patent law, or toward more advanced study in Chemistry, Physics, Biology, and other scientific and engineering disciplines.

Public Health (MPH)

The Master of Public Health prepares graduate students to apply core principles of public health within a variety of community settings and to advance the public health profession. The MPH program seeks to fulfil the Department of Public Health Science's vision of healthy communities partnered with responsive population health systems. The mission is to develop leaders in evidence-based practice who advance the public's health. The program values collaboration, community engagement, diversity, innovation, professionalism, health equity, and social justice in its pursuit of attaining the highest possible standards of health and well-being. Students develop specialized skills in one of 4 concentrations: Community Health Practice (CHPR); Epidemiology (EPID), Physical Activity and Nutrition (PANU) or Population Health Analytics (PHAN). The program prepares students to provide leadership in a variety of settings, including health-related agencies and organizations, hospitals, local and state public health departments, academic research centers and institutes, corporate disease management and wellness programs, non-profit agencies, and healthcare businesses and industries. To be considered for department funding and scholarships, Fall applicants should submit their application via the egrad system by January 15th, 2020. Applications submitted after January 15th will continue to be reviewed until the class is full.

Biology (Ph.D.)

The Ph.D. in Biology has as its intellectual focus, an interdisciplinary synthesis of the biological sciences and related biotechnology. The program draws upon the strengths of faculty in multiple departments and is intended to serve students with interests in conducting research in academia, industry and clinical settings. Graduates of the program will be well versed in quantitative approaches to Biology. The interdisciplinary makeup of the program is designed to produce graduates who will be able to integrate the strengths of more than one discipline in solving biological problems.

Biology (MS)

The Master's of Science in Biology program provides the opportunity for broad training in a variety of biological areas as well as specialization in areas of particular interest to the student. The Department offers a thesis and a non-thesis track within the degree. The thesis track is designed for students whose career goals require formal research training. The non-thesis track is designed for students whose career goals require graduate education, but not formal research experience, such as teaching at the community college/regional college level. The program provides the opportunity for broad training as well as specialization in areas of particular interest through the Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology (MCD) concentration and the Ecology, Evolution and Environmental Biology (E3B) concentration. Students in the Ph.D. and M.S. programs have the opportunity to conduct graduate research under the co-direction of a Biology faculty member and select faculty at the Carolina's Medical Center in Charlotte.

Management of Information Technology (CERT)

The graduate certificate in Management of Information Technology provides professionals with an opportunity to advance their level of competence in the management and applications of computing and information technology through formal training. Coursework towards this graduate certificate can be used for credit towards the M.S. in Information Technology. However, its primary objective is to provide a well-defined target for students who want to advance their knowledge and skills in applying and managing information technology, but do not necessarily wish to complete all the requirements for the M.S. in Information Technology.

Information Technology (MS)

The Master of Science in Information Technology is designed to equip students with advanced skills and knowledge in the planning, design, implementation, testing and evaluation, deployment, maintenance, and management of applications and systems, that embody information and communication technologies for their proper functioning. These skills form necessary foundations for solving practical problems that arise in business, industrial, governmental, and other organizations, as well as for pursuing doctoral studies in information technologies. Current areas of concentration include: Advanced Data and Knowledge Discovery, Design, Emerging Technologies, Human-Computer Interaction, Information Security and Privacy, Information Technology Management, Software Systems Design and Engineering, and Web Development.

Information Security and Privacy (CERT)

The graduate certificate in Information Security and Privacy provides professionals with an opportunity to advance their level of competence in the understanding, management and applications of cyber security and privacy technology. Coursework towards this graduate certificate can be used for credit towards the M.S. in Information Technology. However, its primary objective is to provide a well-defined target for students who want to advance their knowledge and skills in understanding and applying cyber security technology, but do not necessarily wish to complete all the requirements for the M.S. in Information Technology.

Human Computer Interaction (CERT)

The Graduate Certificate in Human Computer Interaction provides both knowledge and skills in the human-centered design of interfaces for software applications. Students are provided with a basic understanding of human-centered design methods, as well as practical experience with techniques for designing, prototyping, implementing, and evaluating user interfaces. The graduate certificate may act as a standalone graduate option for post-baccalaureate and post-master's students, or may be pursued concurrently with a related graduate degree program at UNC Charlotte. The 12 credit hours in the certificate program may be applied to the graduate programs in the Department of Software and Information Systems with approval of the department Graduate Program Director.
